Reaching new heights with trusted colleagues
11 March 2010
Shorts Group is very pleased to report that its Managing Director, Gary Short, made it to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro after five days of hard trekking and climbing. Climbing with colleagues from Blue Group, Gary and the others in the group reached the top of the world’s tallest freestanding mountain in Tanzania, Africa early in the morning on the 02 March 2010.
At about 6,000m above sea level, the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro was incredibly cold at -15 C to -25 C, with oxygen in the mountain air at only approximately 50%. (Gary Short is the chap on the left of the photo.)
The mountaineering group consisted Gary Short, Alan Dalton (Portland House Group), Mark Walker (Chase Signs Ltd.) and Eugene Donnelly from Blue Group. Gary reported that while his group all trained very hard, none of them were fully prepared for what all the challenges that 'Kili' threw at them.
When he had caught his breath and rested a bit after the climb, Gary had this to say:
"It was a great honour for us here at Shorts to accompany Blue Group on this amazing trip. We’ve relied on the quality machines and services of Blue Group since purchasing our first machine from them in 1993."
"This absolutely was the trip of a lifetime. It certainly was not just Mountain Sickness that took our breath away; the views from the top and the climb up were astounding. I couldn’t have picked a better group to go up the mountain with, we were very good at keeping each other motivated and it was great to spend some time with our close business associates, The Blue Group."
Shorts Group is grateful to Blue Group for the committed support that they have extended to the company over more than 15 years.
