Expanding our Farming Fleet to better serve our customers
24 August 2010
Committed to investing in equipment to ensure that we are able to provide the best possible service to our customers, Shorts Group is very pleased to announce the latest addition to our fleet of agricultural machinery, a Joskin Quadra (20,000 liter) tanker. The Joskin Quadra boasts the latest technology in slurry spreading and injecting. This amazing piece of machinery can draw in 20 tons of slurry in only 2 minutes, emptying it onto a field just five minutes!
Shorts Agricultural's new slurry injection tanker makes cost-effective spreading a possibility
Slurry injection offers an innovative method for converting animal waste into valuable fertiliser. Typically disposed of as waste, slurry actually possesses significant quantities of nutrients that aid in arable crop growth.
Injecting the slurry directly into the ground has a number of key benefits. Foremost, you are putting the nutrients that are in the slurry by the plant roots where you can get the best benefit from the available nutrients. Second, the in-ground injection process eliminates the smell of the slurry when spreading it on top of the ground, which is definitely a plus for everyone involved.
We purchased three different applicators for the tanker so that our customers can have the slurry spread on various crops and ground conditions, so that we can achieve the best results to suit there individual requirements. To suit our grassland customers, we were sure to invest in a grassland solo disc injector when we purchased the new tanker. This device places a grooved slot into the ground, allowing the slurry to be placed very near the roots of the grass. Doing so allows the nutrients to be used more effectively, stops the slurry from scolding the grass (especially in hot weather) and allows livestock to be returned to the fields for grazing sooner than if the slurry were spread on top of the grass.
We also have what is called a dribble boom, for top-spreading when sub-soil injection is not required. Typically, we use this dribble boom to spread slurry onto growing cereal or grass crops.
As you can see by the picture above, our new slurry spreader is fitted with massive wheel equipment. These specialised tyres allow us to be able to safely use the machine in unfavourable conditions and on growing crops.
